Laura Doughty

Laura, a native of Pitman and early student of Corrine Gangi, recently returned from performing and teaching in New York City, Japan, Greece and Mexico. She is now a Teaching Artist for the Philadelphia Arts in Education Partnership program. Laura started her professional career at the age of 15 with Ballet South at Rowan State University and the Philadelphia Civic Ballet Company. She then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts in dance from The Juilliard School in NYC. Laura performed in the opening ceremonies of the 1998 Winter Olympics in Japan; received The New Choreographer’s on Pointe Award in NYC, and the NJ Governor’s Award for the Arts; and was praised in a New York Times review for choreographing an off-Broadway show. She has studied with Anna Sokolow, Paul Taylor, Ethel Winter, Jeanne Ruddy, Alfredo Corvino, David Parsons, and Twyla Tharp; and the works of Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Isadora Duncan, and George Balanchine. Laura's dance training is highly versatile and includes classical ballet, modern dance, jazz, tap, Latin dances, and dance exercise among others. We welcome Laura to our faculty.
