The Corrine Gangi Dance Center was first established in Pitman, New Jersey in 1977.
Three years later we moved to our present location in a beautiful historic building on the corner of Cedar and Holly Avenues, a quiet residential community across the road from Betty Park and scenic Alcyon Lake.
This will be our 32nd year teaching dancing in Pitman!
A short walk from the studio takes you to Pitman's new Alcyon Park with its walking paths and many soccer, baseball, and softball fields.
The Dance Center features two fully equipped air conditioned studios.
There are also carpeted waiting and changing rooms and a dancewear shop.
Plenty of well-lit parking is available in our parking lot.
State-Of-The-Art Dance Floors!
The Director, Corrine Gangi, has had a long (over 40 years) and distinguished career as a teacher (major studios in New York City; Portland, Oregon; Cherry Hill), professional
dancer (on stage; network TV), and choreographer (Brooklyn Academy of Music;
NY World's Fair; among others).
She has studied with some of the most famous dancers on the West and East coasts:
Hal Blake of Hollywood (the private dance instructor of Vera Ellen and Mitzi Gaynor); jazz with Luigi and with Matt Mattox; ballet-tap with Paul Draper, considered the most outstanding tap dancer in the world; acrobatics with Joe Price; modern dance at the New Dance group; and ballet at Robert Joffrey's American Ballet Center.
We recently installed new state-of-the-art Timestep dance floors by STAGESTEP in both studios.
Timestep, described as "...the ultimate multi-purpose floor ideally suited for tap, ballet, jazz, modern, clogging...", is used by many big-city dance schools and large theatres, such as Philadanco, Philadelphia; Resorts Casino, Atlantic City; CBS TV, New York City; and Univ. of PA Theatre of Art, Philadelphia to mention just a few.
...the instruction
In her New Jersey studio, Corrine has assembled an experienced staff
of professional teachers (see and read about them here) who have taught at the Center for many years.
In May of 2006, at Gloucester County College’s graduation ceremonies, Corrine Gangi was presented the "Citizens Award Medallion for Service to the College in recognition of her unselfish service and dedication to Gloucester County College".
This came about because, over the years, she has donated to the Gloucester County College Foundation all of the proceeds, over $36,000, received from shows performed
by the Dance Center’s dance company,
DancElectric.
The Foundation uses the funds for college scholarships for South Jersey residents.
This year Corrine established a $10,000 endowment for scholarships at Gloucester County College for South Jersey residents.
For these reasons, Corrine was chosen as a Local Hero in the 2007 Verizon Yellow Pages. Her photo appears there on many pages.
